appearance| At an intimidating stance, Gio stands at 6'2 and weighs about 240 lbs. He's basically like a bear. Being Italian, Gio loves his pasta. However, he knows all too well what can happen if he doesn't physically take care of himself, especially as he's getting older. He make sure he works out and stay in shape. His brown hair is starting to have strands of gray, but it's not noticable just yet. Luckily, he still have a full head of hair to hide those pesky gray. His brown eyes can pierce through your soul. One look was usually all it took for people to listen to Gio.
In order to feel good and earn people respect, you must dress the part. That's what his father always told him. So, Gio always wears very sharp clothes. Most of the time, you can catch him wearing a suit. He doesn't really go to work or have meetings to go to. But, he is always sure to dress the part of the boss. It leaves no room for questions when people see him.
overallpersonality| Giovanni was raised with the value of family, honor, and loyalty. He has done his best to uphold all of those values his parents had taught him and he's doing his best to teach those same values to his only child and daughter, Bianca. His temper isn't always in check and often leads him to fight with his daughter. However, he always made sure to make up with her, and then take his anger out on one of the lower level lackies. They wouldn't know any better.
Pride is one of Giovanni's worst vices. He hates to admit he's wrong and he always needs to prove people they're wrong. Gio's stubborn and expect everyone to follow him. It's kind of easy to get people to listen to him since he is kind of intimidating, but he has also earned his workers' respect. He watched and learned from his father that sometimes you need a little honey to attract the bees. As mean and intimidating Gio may be in front of his workers, he's really a softy. Especially when it comes to family and friends. He's fiercely protective over his daughter.

overallhistory| Born and raised in New York City, Giovanni was the heir and only son of Dominic and Louisa DeLuca. From a very young age, Gio knew his path in life. He was the apple of his father's eye. As a pampered prince, Gio got everything he wanted. He received the best education, going to a private school in the city, and had all the fancy cars. Gio may have acted out during his teen years, but that was because he knew he was almost untouchable. He was somewhat of a bully in school until his father gave him a beating for almost being suspended from school. As much as his father loved Gio, he still expected Gio to act in a certain manner.
When Gio was ten years old, his father introduced him to the family business. It was also the first time Gio saw a dead body. It was accidental, of course. Dominic didn't know his son was hiding in the closet when he shot a man at point blank. The image scared Gio and he had nightmares for a couple of years. His father often reprimanded him for being too weak. Dominic never knew that Gio was haunted by Dominic's cold-blooded murder. Eventually, seeing dead bodies and knowing the shady dealings his father was involved in became normal. He never questioned his father's business because he knew that one day the empire would be his. He admired his father because of the respect he was able to receive and that's what he wanted for himself. His father allowed him to help out in certain areas of the business, teaching him the ropes. However, Dominic made sure that Giovanni knew who was boss.
His life was dictated for him by his father, which was why he briefly acted out in high school. However, when he went away to college, he met the love of his life and quickly matured. Gio suddenly became acceptable of his father's business. Once he graduated, he married Andrea and became more involved with his family's business. At first, Andrea was reluctant with Gio being involved with the family. However, she knew and respected Gio's sense of duty and loyalty. She had no choice but to go along. A few years later, Carina was born. Much to everyone's surprise, she turned out to be a baby girl instead of the much anticipated and expected baby boy.
Gio's parents were just as excited about the baby girl because she was the first in the DeLuca family in a really long time. Gio and Andrea loved and doted on Carina. About ten years ago, Gio's father had a stroke which cause a great scare amongst the Italian family. Dominic decided to step down to care for his health and allow the new generation to take over. So, without much fanfare, Gio became the new leader. Gio didn't miss a beat and picked up exactly where his father had left off. Now with Carina being the heiress of the family business, he decided it was time to show her the ropes of the business just as his father had showed him. Andrea was against this from the start. It was one thing for Gio to be involved in the family business. It was another thing for him to involve their eight-year-old daughter. He did his best to shield her from the ugly parts of the business, but he thought it was necessary to get her familiar with some parts.
Five years ago, Gio and Andrea were overseeing a routine drug smuggle. Normally, Gio wouldn't have been involved, but it was such a huge amount he needed all hands on deck, especially hands that he could trust. It was supposed to be a quick job; in and out. However, something went terribly wrong and Andrea was shot in the crossfire. Gio was still unsure how it all started. Everything happened so fast that he didn't even know she was hit until he turned to look for her and found her on the ground dead. It completely tore Gio up, but he knew it would be the hardest on his daughter. Gio knew he couldn't wallow up in his depression. He had work to do. He had to figure out who shot his wife and kill him. It took almost a year to find the culprit, but he did it. He found the person who's bullets hit his wife and shot the man himself. The whole thing was an accident. Andrea was not the target, but he didn't care. He wanted vengeance and he received it that night.
In honor of his wife's memory, Gio stopped the "training" with Carina. Instead, he promised to spend more time with her. After all, she only had one parent now. Gio knew he had to be more careful with her. She was a splitting image of her mother and Gio was reminded of his wife every time he looked at his daughter. He cracked down on Carina's protection, being more over protective than before. A cold, scratched knee, every hair out of place was always a heavy concern for Gio. He knew eventually his daughter would have to take over his business, but he didn't want her to worry about it just yet. He didn't want his daughter to be involved with the things that killed his beloved wife.
A few months later, his father had passed away, leaving his mother a widow. Things were getting intense in New York and Gio needed a new scenery. With nothing holding him to the city, he decided to move the business and the entire "family" to San Diego. Nothing screamed new than moving across the country. Gio could start all over and yet still keep up with his ancestor's past achievements. He knew that this area was usually reserved for the Mexicans and the Chinese, but he was ready to take them on if they challenged him. He wasn't intimidated by them. Apparently, they don't know just who they're messing with. With news that the Irish mob had followed them across the country, Gio knew this was a challenge. If the Irish thought they could come to San Diego and uproot him before he had the chance to, they have another thing coming to them.

The sun was just beginning to rise, but Gio had been up for hours. A new shipment will arrive this afternoon with the shipment of olive oil he had ordered from Italy. Of course, the olive oil was just a front to the drugs he was really trying to smuggle in. It was a trick his father and grandfather had done many times. They do it so often because it works. You don't fix what's not broken. However, rumors reached Giovanni that the Irish got wind of the shipment and wanted to ambush the ship. They wanted to take the drugs off before the Italians were able to get it themselves.
Gio couldn't believe the Irish were brave enough to do something so stupid. It wasn't as if Gio could go to the police and report this type of dirty thievery. His father used to tell him of times when the mafia actually had some code to abide by. Unfortunately, the Irish don't seem to care about following certain rules. That was one of the reasons why Gio hated the Irish. The Italians conducted their business with a certain degree of finesse. The Irish were nothing but a bunch of hooligans looking to make an easy and cheap buck. They have no kind of honor or moral code.
With a map spread out in front of him at his desk, Gio tried to figure out where the ship was. A few hours ago, they lost communication with the ship. He feared the Irish had gotten to them, acting like a bunch of pirates, and disconnected the line to them. The ship couldn't be that far away. His cellphone rang and Gio looked over at the clock on the wall. This better be good news. "Yeah," he answered his phone. Gio never answered his phone with "hello" unless it was his daughter. But, since his daughter is sleeping peacefully in her bed down the hall, he knew it wasn't her calling. "No, I don't fucking care how you do it! I want you to find that ship! Cash in favors if you have to. Find me that damn ship! If I find out the Irish had taken it over, I swear to God, you head will be mine! Do you know how much this is going to cost me!" He ended the conversation and threw his phone across the room and looked back down at the map. The ship had just reached Mexico when it lost contact. It has to be around there.
There was a knock on the door. "Shit," he swore quietly. The only person in the house right now was his daughter. His shouting had probably woken her up. Gio swore a couple more times under his breath before he tried to gain back his composure. He didn't need his daughter to see him like that. He couldn't allow her to know that anything was wrong. Since his wife died, he had done his best to keep his daughter out of the business as much as possible. "Come in," he said as he watched and waited for the door to open.
